Real & unknown fact about Republic day

on 26 January 1950 replacing the Government of India Act (1935)  the Constitution of India came into effect. The Constitution was adopted by the Indian Constituent Assembly with the effect from 26 November 1949 & it was a democratic government system. Besides that 26 January was taken as the Republic day because on this day in 1929  Indian Independence (Purna Swaraj) was declared by the Congress as opposed to the Dominion status offered by the British Regime.

History of Republic Day

India achieved independence on 15 August 1947 under Independence Act 1947 (10 & 11 Geo 6 c 30) as a constitutional autocracy with George VI  and the Earl Mountbatten as governor-general. Though the country did not get a permanent constitution; those laws were actually modified from colonial Government of India Act 1935.But then India need a strong constitution & new rules & laws. as per the word On 29 August 1947, a resolution was passed for draft a permanent constitution with Dr B R Ambedkar as chairman. Where Independence Day is celebrated for its freedom from British Rule, like that, Republic Day is celebrated for enacting its constitution. The draft constitution was submitted to the Constituent Assembly on 4 November 1947. The Assembly decided no to apply this so quickly they public it for 166 days, which went two years, 11 months and 18 days before adopting the Constitution. After many meetings and some modifications total 308 members of the Assembly signed two hand-written copies of the document (one each in Hindi and English) on 24 January 1950. Two days later which was on 26 January 1950 it came into force throughout the whole India. From that time Dr. Rajendra Prasad began the first term of office as President in independent india . The Constituent Assembly became the Parliament of India under the new Constitution. This date is celebrated in India as the Republic Day..
